The quantity of end-of-life tyres collected for recovery increased dramatically when producer liability was introduced. Arround 16,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres is produced, which is about 8kg per capita. In 2015, 65% of end-of-life-tyres have been recovered through material recovery and 35% through energy recovery.

Due to lower construction activity, material productivity in Slovenia increased faster than the EU average in the period 2007-2012. In 2018 it amounted to 1.86 PPS / kg, but the target of 3.5 PPS / kg by 2030, with the revival of  construction activity, will be difficult to achieve. Therefore, much more attention needs to be paid to measures for the transition to a circular economy.

Research from the European Barometer (EBS) since 2008 has continuously testified to the high awareness of Slovenians about climate changes. Despite fluctuations in perception, for the majority – over two-thirds – climate change represents a very serious problem. Since 2015, we have observed a gradual increase in this awareness, which has surpassed three-quarters of respondents in the latest measurements. According to the most recent data from the REUS 2022 study, more than 80% of households recognize the severity of climate changes, confirming a high level of concern among the population.

The car remains the primary mode of transportation, regardless of the distance or purpose of the trip, while the use of public transport does not show a significant increase. The main barriers to using public transport are poor accessibility, inadequate timetables, a lack of connections, and difficult access. Time inefficiency is also a significant issue. However, there are reasons for optimism, as households are increasingly open to using public transport and car-sharing.

Although a quarter of the newly registered personal cars in Slovenia are electric or hybrid, their share among all personal vehicles is only around 3%. This is due to the fact that households rarely decide to purchase new cars, resulting in a high average age of cars over 10 years, and it will take a long time for our vehicle fleet to become less energy-intensive. Slovenia ranks in the bottom quarter of European countries by the share of first registrations of new personal electric vehicles.

The results of the Energy Efficiency Survey of Slovenia (REUS) 2021 show that 61 % of Slovenian households rarely or never use public transport. Depending on the type of settlements, the largest share of households that use public transport live in Ljubljana and Maribor, as well as in the Obalno-kraška region. A good tenth of those households that use public transport, has used public transport in the recent week, while a fifth of households used public transport in the recent month.

In 2018, more than half of Slovenia's land area was covered by forests (56% or 58% including shrubland), while other mostly natural vegetation accounted for 3%. Farmland occupied 34% of land area, while slightly less than 4% was artificial land, and less than 1% was water. In the periods 1996–2000, 2000–2006 and 2006–2012, land cover and land use changes were relatively small (they occurred on 0.12%, 0.13% and 0.09% of the entire territory, respectively). In the latest period 2012–2018 land cover and land use changes slightly increase (they occurred on 0,44 % ot the entire territory).

In 2023, Slovenia recorded a decrease in the number and total area of functionally derelict areas (FDAs): 1070 FDAs were registered with a total area of 3225.44 ha. This brings the situation closer to that of 2017, with a decrease of 62 in the number of FDAs and 469.83 ha in total area, compared to 2020.
