Slovenia has participated in the European Mobility Week (EMW) initiative from the very beginning. Its implementation has become an important form of promotion and encouragement of sustainable mobility planning in the last decade. Since the beginning of the implementation in 2002 136 Slovenian municipalities have participated in the EMW initiative at least once, and 7 municipalities every year. The number of participating municipalities has increased over the years and has already reached almost half of Slovenian municipalities. The driving force behind the initiative is a network of local coordinators supported by the national EMW coordinator. Regional coordinators have also been participating more intensively in recent years. Furthermore, EMW provides excellent conditions for raising awareness among stakeholders in municipalities and regions and the general public about the benefits of sustainable mobility planning. The initiative has also become a central promoter of the introduction of permanent measures or longer-lasting activities in the field of sustainable mobility.
