Tourism in Slovenia is growing steadily. It was particularly high in the last five years before the pandemic, when Slovenia established itself as an attractive green destination. In 2021 and 2022, domestic guest arrivals and overnight stays increased due to the pandemic. In 2024, Slovenian tourism already exceeded the global and European average with an 8% increase in foreign arrivals compared to 2019.
In 2024, 27.0% of the EU population aged 16 or over could not afford a week of annual vacation away from home. In Slovenia, the share was 14.4%; the lowest in all years of data collection.
Slovenians' travel decisions largely depend on the financial capacity of households or residents. Roughly a third of them never decide to travel privately. We spend the most money on trips to see natural and cultural attractions and attend cultural, entertainment and sports events. Piran is by far the most visited local community in Slovenia.
