In 2016 and 2017, the trend of reducing specific emissions of new vehicles has stopped, and they have even increased in 2018 and 2019, seriously jeopardising the achievement of the target. While the first assessment for 2020 shows a sharp reduction, achieving the 2021 target remains on a critical path meaning that strengthening of the implementation of measures in this area is needed. Average emissions of all vehicles fell sharply in 2018 and 2019. Further reductions are also expected in 2020, but to a lesser extent than in previous years, as the number of first-time registered vehicles will decline sharply and the share of biofuels will no longer increase so rapidly. The 2020 target is very far from the current situation, which means that, despite the reduction announced, the target will be difficult to reach.
