[EN16] Primary energy consumption by fuel
Key message
Primary energy consumption amounted to 6,297 ktoe in 2024 and increased by 3.8% compared to the previous year. The increase, which occurred for all fuels, was due to both higher final energy consumption and increased electricity production. Primary energy consumption was 120 ktoe (- 1.9%) lower than the indicative target value for 2024 from the National Energy and Climate Plan from 2024 (NECP 2024). The indicative annual value was thus achieved. In the structure of primary energy consumption in 2024, the share of liquid fuels increased slightly further, by 0.4 percentage points, to 35.3%. This was followed by nuclear energy (24.1%), renewable energy sources (19.3%), solid fuels (12.3%), and natural gas (11.3%). Compared to 2005, primary energy consumption in 2024 was 17% lower in Slovenia and 19% lower in the EU-27.
