Key message

Final energy consumption in 2024 amounted to 4,594 ktoe and increased by 2.4% compared to the previous year. A decrease occurred only in households, by 1.6%; in all other sectors, final energy consumption increased: by less than one per cent in industry, by 2.8% in services, and the most, by 5.3%, in transport. Final energy consumption was 177 ktoe (- 3.7%) , or 3.7%, lower than the 2024 indicative target value from the National Energy and Climate Plan from 2020 (NECP 2024). The indicative annual target was thus achieved. Taking into account the average annual reduction over the 2005–2024 period, which was 0.5% per year, the 2030 target set out in NECP 2024 will not be achieved. In the 2000‒2024 period, final energy consumption increased by 1 %. In 2024, most energy, 42 %, was consumed in transport, followed by industry (24 %), households (21 %) and other use (13 %). Final energy consumption per capita was 2.16 toe, which was 7.8% higher than the EU-27 average.
